Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN) is hiring a Mentor of Social Networks
PLAN is a nationally recognized social enterprise that has been created by parents of people with disabilities to answer the question, ‘what will happen to my son or daughter when I am gone?”. Our goal is twofold: to ensure a safe and secure future for people with disabilities and to make sure that they are surrounded by a close network of friends. We are inspired by a simple but powerful vision: a good life for all people.
The role of a Mentor of Social Networks is to reduce isolation through the development of PLAN networks, and to provide opportunity for each individual to share their capacities and gifts in the community.
This work includes the following:
1. Mentoring Community Connectors to help people build and maintain strong networks of friends
2. Recruitment and training of Community Connectors
3. Advocacy
4. Facilitating a small number of social networks
5. Providing additional support as required
The successful candidate will have:
– exceptionally strong interpersonal and group skills
– a proven track record in successfully working with families
– a clear picture of the political and economic landscape with relating to people with disabilities
– a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a related field
– five years experience in management roles
– a track record of successful advocacy, using a bridge-building approach
– strong organizational skills
– a clear understanding of an asset-based approach to social networks
– a natural ability to see the gifts in people
– proficiency in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook
Hours: 30 hours per week
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits included.
Additional: A valid BC Driver’s License and use of a vehicle are required
