Three New Books from Spectrum Press – you’re invited!

April 1, 2011

On May 9th, from 4:30 – 8 we’re having a launch party at Heritage Hall for three new books.   We also hope to have two new DVDs ready to go.

Barb Goode’s biography The Goode Life: Memoirs of Disability Activist Barb Goode has turned out so well – we’re very proud that this is our first publication by a “non- Spectrum” author and by a self-advocate.    It’s an amazing story, and I say this as someone who has read it about 20 times so far as we’ve edited and formatted it for publication – the 20th time was as good as the first.  Or perhaps, as “goode.”

We’ve also published a second edition of our own book, 101 Ways to Make Friends: Ideas and Conversation Starters for People with Disabilities and Those who Support Them, after selling out of our first edition (to our surprise, I have to say).   It’s only slightly revised, so if you have the first one it’s probably not worth it to purchase another but we’re thrilled that so many people are finding it so useful.   At a workshop for self-advocates I watched a young man with Down Syndrome turn through the pages and point to pictures that he felt were pictures of his own life.   In between, he hugged the book like a good friend.   That’s all the payment I ever needed.

For the last year we’ve been working on a Facilitators’ Manual and this will also launch on May 9th.   David Pitonyak was nice enough to write us a great foreword after reading an advance copy.

All these books are available on our website,
