PATH continues to grow and develop as an exciting person centred planning tool #PATHyvr2012

The “Experiential Learning” certificate people will get at the end of the day

Today is the last day of our Vancouver PATH training – a great group of people and while we lost a few last week for various reasons, making it a smaller group than expected, it was really exhilarating and powerful.    The folks taking it came from different places, with different ideas and degrees of experience, and it was the first time Shelley and I had taught the process together (we’ve taught it with different partners a few other times), and lots has shifted since last time for both of us – there’s a whole new take on the North Star, and “Bold Steps,” and David Wetherow’s ideas about the Star Raft, and we know so much more about the dangers of mis-using person centered planning and PATH (what does a bad PATH look like is too often answered with stories from real life), and  the very idea of graphic facilitation has expanded…   so much fun to be involved in so many dynamic conversations.   It was particularly great to have teachers from a district about to embark on a concerted new effort around best practice transitions for kids with disabilities coming out of school and into adult lives.

We’ve had a few requests to come to other places around the province and teach PATH – we’d love to!   Just ask us (or look for us in a city near you)!

Thanks Roberta – i hope to work more on something like that in the new year. David Wetherow is doing marvellous things and such an inspiration on about six different levels. He has some ideas about how to take such person centred processes and use them with families and folks in more far-flung places. In the meantime, this is a different course, but I think it would be great to take if you’re interesting in online things – Christine Merkeley is a great graphic facilitator and does a kind of graphics based coaching and is about to start this year’s online intro group: http://www.shift-it-coach.com/
