A Little Gift: A Thank You Certificate!

April 30, 2012

This month celebrates the second anniversary of closing a small “accidental” Spectrum day program created in a room at our offices.   Brave and terrific staff, led by a “Transformation Manager,” Sterling, have supported the dozen or so folks who used to come there every day to become parts of their community – volunteering, working and playing in their neighbourhoods.   The story is told here on slideshare as part of a presentation that we did in Atlanta at TASH 2011.  Sterling brings many gifts to this job but one of the things we always appreciate about him is his graciousness and hospitality.  Soon after we hired him for a different position and were just getting to know him he was accompanying someone to an event and when we looked over he was reorganizing the haphazard napkins into a little spiralling tower.   And we’ve had spiralling napkin towers ever since!  This month, he wanted to recognize members of the community who have been welcoming and supportive and asked for something like a certificate for the folks to bring to their friends at different restaurants, community centres, libraries, etc..   This is a variation of what we came up with (ours is coloured, with some other information, but this has spaces to write your information in and you can always colour it).   Feel free to use it!

101 Friends is a project of the Research, Training and Development division of Spectrum Society: We believe we are surrounded by evidence of kindness, sharing and abundance.   If you’d like to share any of the articles or illustrations (not photographs of people or works which are obviously by individuals, who have only given us permission for here) from the 101 Friends blog  you are welcome to do so for the uses of non-profits or social justice organizations, giving credit to www.101friends.ca – a note letting us know either in the comments or by email or twitter would be great!   Copies of our books, posters and media works for use by groups are available at www.spectrumpress.ca  Inquiries about workshops or facilitation can be made to aaron@spectrumsociety.org  Spectrum is a charity, although Spectrum Press and Learning are Social Enterprises, and donations to our work can be made here – specify Research Training and Development if it matters to you, otherwise it’ll be used where it’s most needed.  You can subscribe to our blog as a blog on wordpress, or as a monthly newsletter at the link above.
